More Information
"The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald is an independent scientific institution under the auspices of the Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald foundation. The donord are the Alfred Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Stiftung, the federal state Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania and the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald. The president of the board of trustees of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Stiftung, Professor Dr. h.c.mult. Berthold Beitz initiated the foundation of the college. Professor Beitz associated this initiative with the idea that an institute for advanced study in the Hanseatic and university city of Greifswald could assist Greifswald to become once again the ""liberal, cosmopolitan centre for encounters in the Baltic Sea region"" that it used to be for centuries. The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung spent about 16 million euros on constructing the new Institute building and renovating the ""Old Apothecary's Shop"", the oldest half-timbered house in Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania, integrated in the complex .
