Many institutions and sponsors are committed to enabling disabled young researchers to live a self-determined and independent life if possible. 

Organisations for the support of talented persons

The  organisations for the support of talented persons, which operate nationwide, are of great importance, especially with regard to questions concerning support for disabled and chronically ill students. During application processes, disabled persons are entitled to make use of the compensations for disadvantages, e.g. in cases of age-limit excess caused by disability.

Rosa Luxemburg Foundation

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is a nationwide acting institution for political education and belongs to the responsible bodies for political education in Germany. The foundation is associated with the political party DIE LINKE. Young researchers are promoted by graduate and postgraduate scholarships.

Higher Education Institutions

According to the German Higher Education Framework Act, Higher Education Institutions are obliged to assure that disabled students are not discriminated and that they can pursue their studies without further help if possible. Furthermore, examination regulations have to consider special needs of disabled students.

Since 1982, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been promoting the “Information Centre for Study and Disability” of the German Student Union for the support of chronically ill and disabled students.

The Information Centre for Study and Disability of the German Student Union answers general questions concerning study. Moreover, it supports disabled students to apply for compensations of disadvantage during their studies and offers technical and personnel aid with regard to accommodation, mobility and funding.
